St. Jude Hospital is a Saint Lucian government-owned facility committed to providing quality healthcare, including 24-hour specialty, emergency, and primary care for nearly 66,000 residents in the southern tip of the island. As a vital medical hub, it ensures that essential health services are accessible to the entire southern community around the clock.

Founded by the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in 1966 as a charity hospital, this renowned institution, with almost 60 years of history, has officially moved to a reconstructed facility in 2025. This transition follows a devastating fire that destroyed the original aging facility, marking a new era for the hospital.

St. Jude Hospital turned to SHINELONG, a top-tier commercial kitchen solution supplier, to set up a modern, hygienic kitchen, keeping all catering performance at the top and ensuring chefs run cooking smoothly on the line.

After moving into a reconstructed institution with over a hundred beds, St. Jude Hospital would serve approximately 70,000 patients annually by conservative estimates. Providing a wide range of nutritious and safe diet options for such a large patient volume and hundreds of staff members presents a massive challenge.

With a clear mission to offer quality healthcare, the hospital's kitchen department required a modern, hygienic kitchen capable of handling high-volume, diverse meal demands. The goal was to build a facility that allows the team to operate with maximum efficiency while maintaining the highest safety standards.

To construct a premium back-of-house system meeting these strict requirements, St. Jude Hospital approached SHINELONG. 

Turnkey Hospital Kitchen Solution

The final solution landed with an end-to-end process. SHINELONG Kitchen worked closely with St. Jude Hospital throughout the project, from kitchen floorplan and cafeteria design to on-site installation. To ensure the catering department serves meals consistently while keeping ingredients in safe storage, 700/900 series commercial ranges and Furnotel refrigeration equipment were selected as the best options to meet the hospital's functional requirements.

The crucial part of building a standout back-of-house system is balancing the equipment with an optimized kitchen layout. Considering that this multi-functional kitchen must cover a wide range of tasks, from food storage and preparation to diverse cookery, serving, and high-volume dishwashing, SHINELONG supplied a premium line of equipment and a distinct kitchen layout design tailored to these specific needs.
